How to Live Without Fear

I chanced upon a Fox News reel on Facebook showing a man armed with a knife ringing someone’s doorbell. While waiting for the door to be opened, he was making stabbing motions and banging on the windows. If not for the home’s Ring camera capturing this, someone could have been seriously hurt, even die. The police came to remove the man from the property.

How about a street camera showing a nun walking the streets of Jerusalem, when a man suddenly shoved her from behind? When she fell on the ground and hit her hand, the man continued to assault her until passersby intervened.

As we hear of increased violence, we cower in fear. Yes, we can avoid watching or reading the news to make things seem more peaceful. But when we’re out and about, we can’t avoid or hide from what we might witness or experience ourselves. Our only guarantee is the peace Jesus offers, not “as the world gives.” Let’s also remember that Jesus said not to “be troubled and afraid” (John 14:27).

Inner peace is more valuable than world peace
