Will Time Heal Wounds?

I can’t help but notice the headlines on Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt finally coming to a settlement. I recall the magazine covers that followed their Hollywood romance and domestic bliss, as well as their applauded avant-garde parenting.

Much as any parent would like to put a lid on a divorce’s effects on children, it’s difficult to do so. Parental conflicts often bring confusion, anxiety and sadness. And we may not want to admit this, but we make our children choose sides.

Will time heal the wounds of families of divorce? Studies show that there are long-term psychological effects for everyone. For children, it is said that they may even be predisposed to mental health issues. But take heart for the psalmist gives us hope with these words: “[God] heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (147:3). So, have confidence and draw near to God. Let Him be your healer and strength!
