When We Allow Things to Get to Us

Sharon called again to complain about Keith and Britney. “They’re not being nice! They’re disrespectful to me by not responding to what I have been asking them to do.” You see, Sharon has been wanting to see an apartment except her lease is not up until next year. So, Keith and Britney have been brushing off Sharon because it would be a useless trip.

“Why are you allowing Keith and Britney to get to you, Sharon? You want them to take joy from you every day? Do something fun!” I said. “I guess,” Sharon replied, quite taken aback. “Do you have a pool in your complex?” I asked. “We do,” she said. “Then go enjoy some sun and cool yourself!”

It’s time to stop allowing people to get to us and vice versa. If we remember that “the joy of the Lord is [our] strength” (Nehemiah 8:10), there is no reason to complain. Decide to have a great day!
