The doorbell rang one Saturday afternoon. My husband didn’t know the young man standing outside, so he was very cautious. As I looked through the one-way glass panes, I recognized John, one of my daughters’ good friends since their middle school days. Apparently, he was in town, had lunch with the twins, and decided to pay me a surprise visit. My husband and I had a wonderful time catching up with him.
When John left, I asked my husband about the visit. Ken said, “You obviously made an impression on that young man.” That brought me back to the days when I volunteered to chaperone at school dances and chauffeured my girls and their friends to the movies and to parties. Being present and available to my daughters allowed me lots of precious time with them and to get to know their friends too.
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17). Although it was a big investment of my time, it continues to be profitable today. I am blessed!
