What Does Light Have to Do with Us?

“Are you Christians?” the store owner asked me and my husband while he was ringing up our purchase. “Yes,” we replied. As we walked out, we both wondered what made him ask and why it was easy for us to admit it when we were in Egypt, a country hostile to Christians.

I’ve been thinking why we don’t reveal our faith in Christ to people at the onset. Are we protecting ourselves from possible ridicule, so we want to make sure that we are first accepted before we say it? Or is it because there is no difference between us and the unbelievers, that there is no point in them knowing about it?

It’s very clear what Jesus said: “You are the light of the world… Let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:14a, 16a). Make sure that you are shining brightly!
