What Brings Your Family Together?

“Mom, we need a family vacation!” Those words coming from a mid-millennial–and by family, meaning “the clan”–are precious. You see, age does not matter in our family. We can hang out, play games, sing karaoke and do all sorts of fun stuff without anyone feeling left out.

I’m glad we don’t need Thanksgiving or an event to recognize what God has blessed us with. We can create a spur-of-the-moment get-together. A Sunday family group text with a Bible verse always welcomes the work week. A prayer request or praise is always acknowledged with prayers. Adult children living independently and away at university never forget to check in. Everyone cares about everyone!

We don’t claim to always get along, but we do “make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3). God has given us something special, our family unity, and we must treasure His gift so we can pass it on to the next generation.
