We went to the Valley of the Kings in Egypt in 2022, and visited King Tut’s tomb, where his linen-wrapped mummy inside a glass case was displayed. It was a surreal experience to see this treasure preserved, and the beautiful artwork prepared even before the king’s death.
In contrast, the Garden Tomb we visited in 2017 was small and simple. There was a carved-out area where the body of Jesus would have lain. This tomb was provided by Joseph of Arimathea, a religious leader who became a follower of Christ.
The opulence of one and the stark simplicity of the other. One still contained the body even after thousands of years, while the other had been empty three days after the death and burial. That empty tomb of Jesus is a sobering remembrance of the ultimate sacrifice for mankind, yet it marks the victory of our Savior over death.
“He has risen! He is not here,” the Bible says (Mark 16:6). His empty tomb outshines everything else!
