My husband planted two Concord grapevines three years ago. This year they produced so much fruit that people wondered if we would go into wine making. While that is not in our radar, especially as we don’t have a vineyard for a backyard, my husband lovingly talks to them as he waters and cares for them.
If you are a gardener, you probably talk to your plants too. Just Google what benefits the plants receive from hearing your voice, and it’s a pleasant surprise that they do respond positively. And if thriving is their way of showing appreciation to you, what wonderful proof!
If there is a lesson to learn for how we can lovingly speak to plants and trees, perhaps it should not be as difficult for us to speak the same way to humans. Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” Imagine how your graceful words can lift someone’s spirit, nurture a relationship and reflect the love of Christ.
