It was like a domino effect. The pregnant woman took a tumble, entangling her toddler and the staff of the fast-food place. Time seemed to stand still until a lady diner got up to help while everyone else either watched or ignored what was happening.
In a world that tells us to stay out of people’s business, we have learned to either remain as bystanders or simply walk away even in emergencies. Sadly, a crisis can be avoided, or a life can be saved if we act. Think of the story of the Good Samaritan, who helped a man who was attacked and left for dead by robbers. Had the Good Samaritan continued his journey just like the priest and the Levite before him, the injured man would have died. You can read Luke 10:25-37 for the full story.
We don’t need to be part of other people’s drama. But the world still needs a helping hand from caring neighbors from time to time.
