How Resilient are You?

I attended a webinar on how to grow your personal and professional resilience. After the webinar, they provided a test—which I took—and scored a 76 or “better than most.” Bouncing back from difficulties is the simplest way to describe resilience.

All of us have sob stories to tell, with some sadder than others. But this is not about who has the worst one to share. It’s about getting through the difficulty and calling yourself a survivor, not a victim.

You can do a straightforward evaluation with these in mind:

  • Self-awareness. Know what your stressors are and how to avoid them.
  • Flexibility. You are willing to take steps to change and turn things around.
  • Strong problem solver. You can look for opportunities for self-discovery.
  • Strong relationships. You have a network and are unafraid to ask for help.

But the best resilient booster are these words: “I can do all things through [Christ] who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
