“Make new friends today!” my husband shouted as I got in the car to go to work. Fairly new and with a hybrid schedule and “hoteling” for workspace, I may meet someone today but may not run into him or her again for weeks. So, I laughed at my husband’s reminder.
A message popped into my Teams chat box one day. “Hello, amiga! How are you today?” It was one of the chiefs for our unit. During our exchange, I found out her daughter was suffering from pneumonia, and she will be taking some time off to care for her. Having a soft heart for young mothers—she’s close to my daughters’ age—I gave some reassurance that her mother’s love and care will deliver the much-needed cure. And that gave her peace of mind.
God surprised me with a new friendship, a “sweet [one that] refreshes the soul” (Proverbs 27:9, The Message). All I had to do was be ready and available!
