The holiday season always brings mailers inviting us to show compassion to others. It could be providing meals or paying for a goat or chicken somewhere in the world. But it’s also a mad dash season for giving, where you are excited to “buy smart” with Black Friday deals and shop online to avoid the mall crowds.
What do you have that will bring comfort and joy to others? I am not talking about those fuzzy throws that make their way in people’s homes this month. Maybe a surprise money gift to a friend struggling to make ends meet right now, or a basket of goodies for the senior neighbor living on her own.
Many celebrate today for one reason or another. Imagine the child Jesus laying in a manger, wrapped in swaddling clothes. His birth unwrapped God’s gift of salvation and wrapped us with great comfort and joy. (Read Luke 2:1-20 and John 3:16).
